A SWISS GOLD BONBONNIÈRE WITH INCORPORATED WATCH
Geneva, circa 1780, the box marked with initials "M.P", the watch signed "Lepine a Paris" and numbered No 192

Circular gold box, the independent cover centered by a watch, with secret mechanism opening the hinged lid to reveal the watch and the watch key, the white enamel dial with black roman chapters and diamond-set hands, the box of burnished gold framed by bands of ovolos -- 57 mm diam.

Lot Essay

Jean-Antoine Lépine (1720-1814) married the sister of Caron de Beaumarchais, the celebrated clockmaker and writer, and worked in the firm of "Caron and Lépine" until 1766 when he set up independently. He was successively clockmaker to Louis XV, Louis XVI and Napoleon I.
