A SWISS ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX SET WITH A SILHOUETTE
possibly Geneva, circa 1780, the silhouette signed "Lasse fec"
Rectangular box with canted corners, the cover, sides and base enamelled with countryside scenes en silhouette in black on a translucent orange background on an engine-turned wavy guilloché gold ground, the cover applied with an octagonal gold églomisé silhouette depicting the profile of a gentleman, the gold mounts chased with a ribbon-twist border

The silhouettist Lasse is mentioned in E. Nevill Jackson, A Dictionary of Artists in Silhouette, London, 1938, p. 123, with a portrait of Emperor Paul of Russia as a child, in the possession of Madame Nossof, Moscow.
