Lot Essay

The print was registered at the Bibliothèque Nationale on 13 Pluviôse an V (1 February 1797). Hand-coloured impressions of it are at the Musée Carnavalet, Paris.
The subject represents confidence tricksters fooling a young man by selling him some Mandats territorriaux and picking his pocket for good measure.
