Lot Essay

This bust of a lady closely follows in the artistic tradition of Antonio Canova (1757-1822) and is comparable in composition and facial type to the celebrated marble statue of Paolina Borghese as Venus Victorious in the Galleria Borghese in Rome, although not an exact copy.
