Lot Essay

The table's bamboo and red-japanned frame embellished with golden dragon-scales, is of rectangular cut-cornered form corresponding to that of stands designed in the Oriental manner for the parade corridor of the Prince Regent's Marine Pavilion, Brighton and illustrated in J. Nash, Views of the Royal Pavilion Brighton, London, 1984, figs. 170 and 171). A pair of related two-tier stands with pagoda-swept rooves was acquired for this corridor in 1967 (D. Rogers, 'Recreation of Brighton's Royal Pavilion', The Connoisseur, August 1968, p. 217, fig. 2).
