Comprising two pedestals with tilt-tops and one extra leaf; the moulded rectangular top above a canted square shaft, on a quadrapartite base with downswept legs headed by stylized leaves, on foliate-scrolled feet, brass castors, with four bolts and four clips, one pedestal stamped 'J. HOWE BIRMN'

Lot Essay

This table was used for many years by the distinguished architect, the late Sir James Stirling in his offices, first in Gloucester Place and then in Fitzroy Square, London.

Joseph Howe of 41 Ellis St., Exeter Row, Birmingham is recorded as an interior decorator in 1835 (The Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660-1840, Leeds, 1986, p. 455).
