Salome presented with the Head of Saint John the Baptist

The support is stamped with the coat-of-arms of the city of Antwerp and a panel maker's mark of a star.

The present picture was presumably inspired by Rubens's picture of the same subject datable to 1609 sold at Sotheby's, New York, 30 Jan. 1998, lot 137.
