Lot Essay

The Eames Aluminium Group series is a line of furniture designed by Charles (1907-1978) and Ray Eames (1912-1988). While the furniture, particurlary the task chair, is a icon of office furniture, it was originally commissioned as outdoor seating for the home of J. Irwin Miller (founder of Cummins Engines). The chair has been in production by Herman Miller since its inception in 1958 and later by Vitra, although the seat material had changed over time.
