Lot Essay

This large-scale and freely painted watercolour is typical of Knight's work in the 1940s, particularly that made at Malvern during and immediately after World War II. Two similar watercolours of cornfields are in the UK Government Art Collection, acquired directly from the artist in 1953 (inv. 2103 and 2104).
