Lot Essay

Largely self-taught, although influenced by the works of Anthony Vandyke Copley Fielding, Hine exhibited a watercolour entitled The South Downs, near Eastbourne at the New Water Colour Society in 1869, no. 25, a picture that he priced at 100 guineas.
