Lot Essay

The young Iranian artist Shahriar Ahmadi is inspired by the poems of the legendary Sufi mystic Rumi. In his series Rumi in my Chalice, of which this outstanding triptych is a fine example, the canvas becomes a metaphor for the chalice as the artist uses it to embody the poetry. In fact, he depicts abstract compositions, inspired by the themes of love and philosophical contemplation of the Sufi mysticism and thus reveals his own emotions. Through his technique, his brushstrokes and his strong palette, Shahriar Ahmadi brings poetry to life.
