A LOUIS XV GILT AND PATINATED BRONZE ELEPHANT CLOCK WITH A MUSICAL BOX
SIGNED BY JEAN-JOSEPH DE SAINT-GERMAIN AND BY JEAN-PHILIPPE GOSSELIN, MID-18TH CENTURY
The clock surmounted by a white enamel circular dial signed 'GOSSELIN / A PARIS', crowned by a putto holding a tablet, the case encircled by floral garlands and supported by a trumpeting elephant, on a pierced rocaille terrace. The shaped green-stained horn musical box, its front fitted with a grille backed with red fabric centred by a basket of flowers and foliate scrolls, the sides similarly decorated with rocaille cartouches incorporating grilles and red fabric panels, the terrace signed 'S. GERMAIN', the clock movement signed and numbered 'Gosselin A Paris / No. 966'; the musical mechanism lacking, the terrace and associated base 18th century.
