A LARGE DOUBLE-TERMINATED AQUAMARINE "The Baton"
Shigar, Gilgit Province, Pakistan, circa 2010
Natural aquamarine crystals formed in the hot and violent depths of the earth, in this case over 50 million years ago as the Himalaya Mountains were rising. Large, perfect crystals are rare. Large perfect crystals showing both ends (terminations or "caps" ) as nature formed them, are understandably more rare. This crystal, so nicely balanced on a pedestal of matrix (host rock) presents a unique aesthetic as a crystal of gem translucence, presented on original matrix. This barrel-shaped example of a gem aquamarine crystal exemplifies crystallographic perfection of the sharp hexagonal shape, perfect symmetries, and rich colour. Complete all around (with one clean and acceptable repair in the middle). With a custom lucite base for display.
26cm. wide
