Los dibujos de Roy Lichtenstein revelan los fundamentos de su característico estilo pop art y ponen de manifiesto el proceso mediante el cual perfeccionaba las imágenes antes de plasmarlas en pinturas, grabados y esculturas. Trabajando principalmente con grafito, tinta y rotulador, realizó bocetos preparatorios en los que exploraba la composición, el trazo y el sombreado. Muchos de estos dibujos sirvieron de base para sus obras de mayor formato, plasmando en su forma más pura sus característicos puntos Ben-Day, sus contornos marcados y sus figuras inspiradas en los cómics. Aunque a menudo se pasan por alto en favor de sus pinturas, los dibujos de Lichtenstein demuestran su dominio de la línea y su capacidad para sintetizar imágenes complejas en una simplicidad gráfica.
