LEADING THE WINE AUCTION MARKET IN ASIA YEAR TO DATE

From 21 - 23 May, Christie’s Hong Kong held auctions of two magnificent single owner wine collections “The Visionary’s Spectacular Cellar”, and “The Ultimate Private Collection Featuring The Greatest Burgundies Part II”, realising a historic combined sale total of HK$209,317,250/ US$26,795,350 with 97% sold by lot and 114% hammer above low estimate and almost 40% of lots surpassed their presale high estimates, leading the wine auction market in Asia year to date with the highest ever total for the category at Christie’s.

ACHIEVED SALE TOTAL OF HK$52,597,440 / US$6,722,219

On 23 May, Christie’s Handbags and Accessories live auction achieved HK$52,597,440/ US$6,722,219, with a 95% sell-through rate by lot, and hammer price of 133% over total low estimate. The Spring Edition of Louis Vuitton Trunks from a Prominent Japanese Collector was 100% sold.

HIGHEST EVER SALE TOTAL FOR THE CATEGORY AT CHRISTIE’S ASIA

On 24 May, Christie’s Watches held two live auctions, including the white-glove sale of “The Champion Collection Part III: The Artistry of Complications”, and “Important Watches and The Rise of The Independent Watchmakers, Featuring The Kairos Collection Part II”, realising a historic sale total of HK$299,004,780/ US$38,269,921 — the highest ever sale total for the category at Christie's Asia, and 139% hammer above low estimate. 21 world auction records were achieved for references across both sales.

On 25 May, Christie’s Magnificent Jewels live auction totalled HK$439,698,540/ US$56,277,104 with solid sell-through rates of 85% by lot and 83% by value. The top lot of the sale is an Exceptional Jadeite Bead Necklace, sparked spirited competition and eventually sold for HK$69,037,500/ US$8,836,123.

This spring, Christie’s Chinese Paintings live auctions achieved a total of HK287,444,460/ US$36,796,820, with a sell-through rate of 85% sold by lot, and over 60% of lots sold above high estimates. Classical paintings Wen Zhengming’s Two Verses in Running Script was sold for HK$9,810,000/ US$1,255,831, more than 8 times over its pre-sale low estimate: HK$1,200,000/ US$153,618.

This spring, Christie’s Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art live auctions achieved a total of HK$245,570,700/ US$31,432,235, with 60% of lots sold above their pre-sale high estimates. A MAGNIFICENT AND EXTREMELY RARE LARGE DOUCAI VASE, QIANLONG SIX-CHARACTER SEAL MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795), from the Collection of The Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, which sold for HK$34,050,000/ US$4,357,961, with sale proceeds to benefit The Helen Munson Williams Acquisition Fund.
