Save Lake Tahoe - Our mission

Keeping Tahoe Blue: The League to Save Lake Tahoe

The focus of the League to Save Lake Tahoe is water quality and clarity in Lake Tahoe. Tragically, the pristine clarity of Lake Tahoe as experienced by early visitors is no more. Scientific measurements of water clarity were made starting in 1968. At that point, one could see a white disk submerged to a depth of 100 feet. Today, the decline in clarity appears to have been arrested at around 70 feet, but new threats such as climate change, invasive aquatic species and pollution loom.

Our Mission
The League to Save Lake Tahoe is dedicated to protecting and restoring the environmental health, sustainability, and scenic beauty of the Lake Tahoe Basin. We focus on water quality and its clarity for the preservation of a pristine Lake for future generations.

Our Vision
"Keep Tahoe Blue" means a crystal-clear Lake, protecting watersheds that support native plants and forests and abundant wildlife, an active and informed community of residents and visitors who act as stewards for the Lake, and communities and facilities within longstanding urban boundaries that harmonize with the natural environment, and provide low-impact outdoor recreational opportunities now and into the future.

For 250 years, Christie’s has helped steward some of humanity’s greatest artistic treasures across generations and cultures. As a leader in our market, we want to build a sustainable art business so that we can play another stewarding role: helping to protect the environment so that great natural beauty can be enjoyed by and inspire future generations.

In March 2021, we announced a global sustainability initiative, guided by three key pillars: commit, communicate and collaborate.
