The partnership between Christie’s and DRAWING NOW began in 2014, with the aim raising the profile of contemporary drawing.
In March 2016, DRAWING NOW PARIS celebrates its 10th anniversary and to mark the occasion, several exhibitions will take place at institutions and museums in and around Paris. Christie’s Paris will play its part, exhibiting the work of Abdelkader, Benchamma, the 5th laureate of the DRAWING NOW award, during the spring drawing sales.
A preview of Abdelkader Benchamma’s drawings takes place at Christie’s viewing rooms on 23 March to coincide with the launch of the Old Masters and Modern Works on Paper exhibitions and auctions. Benchamma’s pictures will then be on public display from 24 March to 1 April, alongside works from the two auctions, which take place on 31 March and 1 April.
The delicately executed, dynamic drawings of Abdelkader Benchamma (b. 1975, Mazamet, France) express powerful yet ambiguous moods that probe at ideas of a stable reality. Using varied techniques and media, he draws inspiration from cosmology, science fiction literature, existentialist theatre and literature. Benchamma is currently showing a commissioned piece, Representation of Dark Matter, at The Drawing Center, New York.
