Inside the Global Contemporary Art World

Online Course, English, 2018

Jean Dubuffet, Les Grandes Artères © ADAGP, Paris and DACS, London 2018
Andy Warhol, Self-Portrait © 2018 The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc. / Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York and DACS, London

In an age of global communication, where art works are breaking records at auction and artists act more like celebrities than bohemian rebels, the art world is no longer a homogenous body working within a small community. It has become an aggregate of multiple worlds which interact and overlap in a complex fashion. The art world is a network of dependencies between a set of players, whose influence changes over time.

By the end of this course:

•You will have gained an in-depth understanding of the global contemporary art world.

•You will be able to identify the various players with an understanding of their individual role and their interactions amongst one another: artists, private dealers, galleries, collectors, auction houses, art fairs, biennials, and museums.

•You will have gained an understanding of the various types of collectors participating in the art market.

•You will have acquired the knowledge to participate in the global art market.
