The partnership between Christie’s France and DRAWING NOW| LE SALON DU DESSIN CONTEMPORAIN began in 2014, with the aim of raising the profile of contemporary drawing. Christie’s Paris will play its part, exhibiting the work of French artist Jochen Gerner, the 6th laureate of the DRAWING NOW award, during the spring drawing sales.
The “Catalogue 2008” exhibition will include drawings from the artist’s “Home” series, as well as several wall paintings. A preview will be held at Christie’s Paris viewing rooms on 15 March, to coincide with the launch of the Impressionist, Old Masters and Modern Works on Paper exhibitions and auctions. Gerner’s pictures will then be on public display from 16–24 March, alongside works from the five auctions, held on 22, 23 and 24 March.
Born in 1970, Gerner plays with visual codes in order to critique both language and image. He is the author of several books, such as Panorama du froid (l’Association, 2013), Branchages (l’Association, 2009), Contre la Bande Dessinée (l’Association, 2008), TNT en Amérique (l’Ampoule, 2002), Le Minimalisme (with Christian Rosset, Le Lombard, 2016) and RG (avec Emmanuel Rabu, l’Association, 2016). His drawings have been published in newspapers including Le Un, Le Monde, Libération, Télérama and The New York Times.
Gerner’s work has been exhibited at the Nancy Museum of Fine Arts, in 2015; the Anne Barrault art gallery in 2013; the Museum of Art and History of Bastia in 2012; and at Lux in Valence in 2011. His works have also been featured in exhibits at the Arab World Institute in 2015.
