To mark the 30th anniversary of the Christie's Education Trust as well as the 250th anniversary of the foundation of Christie’s auction house, Christie's Education hosted their inaugural Global Alumni Conference on Friday 23 September 2016 in London.
The conference was exclusively designed for Christie's Education Alumni to keep members informed of recent developments in various fields within the art world and is a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow alumni.
During the one-day conference, six sessions were held, with subjects ranging from collecting and connoisseurship to technology and Aphrodite’s sandals. Panel discussions attracted major figures from the art world and gave alumni the opportunity to discuss current and future developments both in the market and academia. In a panel on the intersection of art and technology, the massive undertaking of transporting Ai Wei Wei’s landmark Royal Academy exhibition was revealed. ‘The Future of the Art Fair’, moderated by Melanie Gerlis, art market columnist at the Financial Times, considered not only the five-year strategy for speakers’ fairs (such as the START Art Fair, represented by Director Niru Ratnam) but also the future of prestigious printed invitations. Guest speakers in ‘The View from a Collector’ panel included noted collectors Muriel Salem and Maria Sukkar.
Feedback from alumni about the conference has been extremely positive, and we look forward to hosting our next Alumni Conference in New York in 2017.
