Royal Drawing School: Best of 2019

London, 8 – 12 November 2019

The Royal Drawing School presents a selling exhibition of drawings and works on paper by students studying on The Drawing Year postgraduate programme. The exhibition offers a range of work, rich in observation, imagination and storytelling. The graduating artists come from a range of backgrounds and artistic disciplines including painting, printmaking, architecture, photography and illustration. The Royal Drawing School is an independent, not-for-profit resource that aims to raise the standard and profile of drawing through teaching and practice. The School was founded by HRH The Prince of Wales along with artist Catherine Goodman is 2000. In addition to The Drawing Year the School also runs The Foundation Year for 18 and 19 year olds, the Young Artists Programme for 10 to 18 year olds, a Public Programme of daytime and evening drawing courses for adults and an International Residencies Programme in the USA, Italy, India, Jamaica, China, Scotland and Wales. The School’s drawing courses are attended by over 1000 people each week.

The exhibition moves to the Royal Drawing School’s gallery in Shoreditch which will exhibit an expanded collection of over 400 drawings from 29 November 2019 – 15 January 2020, 19-22 Charlotte Road, EC2A 3SG.

Ways of Drawing: Artists’ Perspectives and Practices

The Royal Drawing School is also pleased to introduce its first book, Ways of Drawing: Artists’ Perspectives and Practices (Thames & Hudson) alongside this exhibition. A lavishly illustrated collection of reflections and in-practice sessions on drawing by contemporary artists and teachers from the School – at once inspirational and instructional. From explorations of artistic development to short, imaginative strategies for the seeing the world afresh, Ways of Drawing is an invaluable companion for anyone interested in drawing - from the aspiring to the professional artist, teachers, writers, architects, filmmakers, designers and anyone in between.
