From 3-18 May in New York, Christie’s presents 20th Century — a season of sales featuring works by some of the greatest artists in recent history. Highlights will include works never previously presented at auction, with standout examples available at a variety of price points in both live and online auctions.

The series of live auctions kicks off on the evening of Sunday 8 May with Bound To Fail, a highly anticipated curated sale of contemporary art that explores the artist’s relationship with potential failure. Failure, after all, is the risk that any artist must take when pushing boundaries and challenging the established concepts of what constitutes fine art and commercial success.

On 10 May, our Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening Sale presents works by some of the biggest names in recent art history, including a range of museum-quality works which are being offered at auction for the first time. The auction is to be followed by two afternoon sessions of Post-War and Contemporary Art on 11 May.

On 12 May, Christie’s Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale will present an exceptional selection of 52 works by the most revered artists of the early 20th century, led by outstanding paintings by Monet, Picasso and Modigliani, many of which have not been on the market for decades. The sale is followed by the Impressionist & Modern Day Sale, and the Impressionist & Modern Works on Paper sale on 13 May.

As a digital complement to our live saleroom auctions, Christie’s is to offer three online-only sales, with a strong selection of works to suit every collector’s budget. From 6-17 May, our online-only Picasso Ceramics sale is to feature some of the artist’s best-known motifs, from owls to taureaux. From 6-18 May, Art as Jewellery will feature wearable pieces by some of art’s biggest names, while the online-only Post-War and Contemporary Art sale takes place from 3-13 May.

In what has become a new auction-world phenomenon, Christie’s New York is also to present an extended free public exhibition of artworks from the most notable artists and movements of the era, mixing categories, styles, artists and influences that have traditionally been kept separate by the auction calendar. Viewing days at Christie's Rockefeller Center Galleries begin on 30 April and run through to 12 May.
