Walking through the galleries of Christie’s Classic Week transports the viewer into a world where El Greco meets samurai armour, where a gold Russian tea service shares space with pistols gifted to Simón Bolívar by the Marquis de Lafayette, and a sculpture of Andromeda stands juxtaposed to prints by Francisco de Goya.
Seven distinct auctions from the Antiquities, Decorative Arts, Old Master Paintings, Sculpture and Classical Japanese departments structure the week of events. Revolution, a new cross-category concept sale on 13 April, will offer paintings, prints and sculpture as physical expressions of changing cultural consciousness.
With estimates starting at accessible price points, the opportunity to collect a classic has never been more present and possible. Viewings in New York begin on 8 April.
