Born in New York City and raised in Garden City on Long Island, Richard Stone Reeves was considered one of the greatest equine artists of the 20th century. He painted more than a thousand race horses throughout his career, which began just after World War II. He was keenly sought after for these commissions and his roster of subjects includes some of the greatest horses to have raced, winners of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, Belmont Stakes and even Triple Crown winners. His neo-Romantic portraits of these sleek athletes in serene pastures are beloved and revered by horsemen and laymen alike. Christie’s is honored to be offering a beautiful selection of Richard Stone Reeves’ paintings from his own collection.
