Christie’s to sell The Private Collection of President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan

September 2016 sales series to offer a ‘through-the-keyhole’ experience with unique insight into the private lives of two of the 20th century’s most celebrated public figures

The landmark auction of The Private Collection of President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan, the 40th President and First Lady of the United States, is slated for September 2016 to coincide with Christie’s Americana Week sales series in New York.

As per the Reagans’ wishes, proceeds from the auction are designated for The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute.

The sale encompasses furniture, decorative works of art, books, memorabilia, jewellery, paintings, sculpture, drawings and prints from President and Mrs. Reagan’s home in Los Angeles, California (see our exclusive guided video tour).

Included are American, English and Chinese furnishings selected for the home’s beautifully appointed Ted Graber-designed interiors, paying homage to the William Haines ‘Hollywood Regency’ style.

'This prestigious collection offers unprecedented insight into the private lives of President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan’

The collection will be sold in a sequence of live and online auctions. Estimates on individual items range from $1,000 to $50,000, and the sales are expected to realise in excess of $2 million in total. To receive more information about the sales, please sign up here.

‘Christie’s is honoured to be entrusted with this prestigious collection which offers unprecedented insight into the private lives of President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan,’ says Brook Hazelton, President of Christie’s Americas. ‘Each object offers a “through-the-keyhole” experience revealing as-yet untold stories of two of the 20th century’s most celebrated public figures.’

The generosity and foresight of President and Mrs. Reagan will ensure that the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute, and the presidential library it supports, will be equipped to pursue its mission. ‘It is our honour to fulfil their wishes for the benefit of countless numbers who will visit the Reagan Library in the future,’ comments John Heubusch, Executive Director of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute.

More details of the Collection will be announced in the coming weeks. The complete sale catalogue will be available in late summer 2016.
