Explore the treasures on offer this November in Asia’s art capital
This year’s Hong Kong Autumn auctions, taking place 25-30 November 2016 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, will offer a wide range of exquisite works of historical significance and distinguished provenance.
Among the key categories this season are Asian 20th Century and Contemporary Art, Chinese Classical and Modern Paintings and Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art. Further sales, including Magnificent Jewels, Important Watches, Fine and Rare Wines and Handbags & Accessories, will showcase a full array of luxury pieces.
A leading highlight of the season is the Pioneers sale, to be presented as a standalone chapter of the Hong Kong evening sale on 26 November. The auction celebrates modern and contemporary Asian artists such as Sanyu, Zhang Daqian, Zao Wou-ki, Wu Guanzhong, Lin Fengmian and Kim Whan-ki — avant-garde trailblazers who ushered in an era of artistic innovation and shaped the path of 20th and 21st-century Asian art.
Also during the auction week, Christie’s will present From Bloom to Harvest — A Century of Modern Chinese Paintings, an exhibition of works from the renowned collection of Chan Kok Hua. Featuring pieces by artists such as Qi Baishi, Li Keran and Lin Fengmian, the exhibition will showcase one of the most comprehensive collections of mid-19th and 20th-century modern Chinese paintings.
