Christie’s Impressionist & Modern Art series of sales in New York realized $189,804,200 / £123,372,730 / €146,149,234 on 8-9 May 2013. Chaïm Soutine’s Le petit pâtissier, which realized $18 million, was the top lot of the week and set a new world auction record for the artist. Artist records were also set in the Day Sale with Henri Manguin’s fauve painting, Etude inversée, Nu sous les arbres, Villa Demière, and for Jankel Adler’s The Artist. Strong sell-through rates by lot and value characterized both sales with Christie’s staff representing bidders from across the globe. We look forward to the upcoming Impressionist and Modern Art sales in London in June and New York in November, for which exciting property has already been secured.
