Selling Jewelry

Christie's holds 26 jewelry sales a year in Amsterdam, Dubai, Geneva, Hong Kong, London, New York, Milan and Paris. This enables our specialists to choose the best location to sell jewelry and thereby guarantee the highest price possible for you. Property is received up to ten weeks prior to the scheduled auction date. Check Christie's Auction Calendar for dates of upcoming jewelry sales.

Please visit How to Sell for further information about selling at auction, including the Seller's Commission.

In person
While you can drop in at any Christie's location worldwide for a free verbal appraisal and marketing advice, an appointment ensures the availability of a specialist at any given time.

As Christie's specialists frequently travel all over the world, please contact your nearest Christie's office to find out when a jewelry expert will next be visiting.

Special visits to your residence or bank may also be arranged.

By mail
You may send your jewelry to Christie's by registered mail, or through a specialized shipping agent. We will advise you by return mail on estimate, suggested reserve and date of the next jewelry auction. Should you then decide against a sale, Christie's will return your jewelry in the same manner it was sent with no charge for the appraisal.

By email
You may email your nearest Jewelry Specialist a digital image of your jewelry. We would appreciate if you could give us measurements, the name of the maker or designer, and any other detail you may have, and will write back to you by email.

Assessment Factors

Many different factors affect the value of a piece of jewelry, including:
•  color, clarity and weight of the stones
•  design
•  maker
•  overall condition
•  age
•  geographical or historical provenance
•  workmanship
•  rarity
•  the price for which a similar piece sold at auction

To determine the most accurate assessment possible, we may recommend, for a nominal fee, examination by a gemological laboratory.
