In the Saleroom: Pablo Picasso’s Les femmes d'Alger

Pablo Picasso’s Les femmes d'Alger, version L, from the artist’s groundbreaking 1955 series of 15 paintings inspired by Delacroix's Les femmes d'Alger, fetched $21,362,500 at New York's Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale on 4 May 2011. This was the first extended series that Picasso created after a renowned painting by a past master. Maintained in a private collection for over 50 years, the painting was purchased by an anonymous bidder. (RT: 3:30)
