The formidable collection of Béatrice & Patrick Caput is the result of numerous years of aesthetic and intellectual research, is a testimony to the passion of a recognized specialist in the field.
The Avant-Garde(s) including Thinking Italian sale will be held in Paris during the most exhilarating week of the year for the French art market. Led by a spectacular painting by Joan Mitchell which has remained in the same private collection for the past 30 years, this sale pays tribute to exceptional artworks with prestigious provenances, from Pablo Picasso to Jean Dubuffet, from Theo van Doesburg to Pierre Soulages, in addition to François-Xavier Lalanne, Jean Arp and Yves Klein… Moreover, by welcoming a section entitled Thinking Italian for the first time, Christie’s France has the pleasure of showcasing this year masterpieces of 20th century Italian art. From Alighiero Boetti to Enrico Castellani, without forgetting Salvatore Scarpitta, this section of the sale is led by a rare silver [Concetto spaziale] by Lucio Fontana offered for the first time at auction.
The next day, the Art Moderne sale will take over, led by an emblematic painting by Marc Chagall, a sough-after composition by Fernand Léger and stunning oils by Kees van Dongen and Édouard Vuillard. The majority of works in this auction come from distinguished private collections, each showcasing a different collecting perspective.
