On 23 October, Christie’s Paris will present its annual Modern Art sale, bringing together an exceptional selection of paintings, works on paper and sculptures from prestigious private collections. Assembled by discerning collectors with refined and distinctive tastes, these works offer a rich panorama of Impressionist and Modern art.

Among the highlights of the sale will be 31 works from the Durand-Ruel Collection, paying tribute to the exceptional vision of the renowned dealer Paul Durand-Ruel. A pivotal figure in the promotion of Impressionism, he played a major role in bringing the work of the movement’s forefathers such as Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro to a wider audience, while also championing the generation of Post-Impressionist artists that followed. The collection will notably include highly sought-after works by Eugène Durenne and Gustave Loiseau.

The sale will also feature 35 works from the celebrated American collection of Marlene and Spencer Hays. This group places particular emphasis on the Nabis, with remarkable examples by Paul Ranson, Xavier Ker-Roussel and Édouard Vuillard.

Another of the sale’s landmark collections will be Radiant Modernism: Signac to Albers, bringing together major works by Odilon Redon and Félix Vallotton, alongside a remarkable group of watercolours by Paul Signac. The Surrealist movement will also be represented through a spectacular selection of works on paper by Leonora Carrington and Hans Bellmer, highlighting the diversity and richness of the artistic movements brought together in this sale.

Further highlights will include several rediscoveries by major masters of Modern art, including Pablo Picasso, Pierre Bonnard and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, alongside numerous other works to be unveiled during our exhibition, which opens on 16 October.
