Ink on ricepaper, the text an Uighur proverb translating as If you cannot give up yourself, you cannot attain your purpose, with the red seals of the artist in Chinese and Arabic, within textile border, mounted, glazed and framed - 35 1/2 x 35 1/2in (90.3 x 90.3cm)

Descriptif du lot

Niyaz Kenim Shaerqi (b.1948) is arguably the most famous Uighur calligrapher at present. His works have been exhibited in China at various venues, in Tashkent (1991), Washington (2002: Silk Road Festival), Almati (2004), Islamabad (2006) and Istanbul (2007)
