This sale features important rare Safavid, Ottoman and Qajar
manuscripts, miniatures and calligraphy from the library of the late
Mr Djafar Ghazi. This compelling collector, who visited auctions and
dealers the world over, quietly amassed one of the finest collections
of manuscripts and calligraphies in the world in the solitude of his
Munich flat. A passionate linguist, he was able to read Ottoman
Turkish, Arabic and Persian. The irony and certainly part of his charm
lies in the fact that for a man who loved the written word, he
documented and literally translated so little, leaving us to simply gaze
in wonder at the beauty of the calligraphy.
