The story of Anglo Indian Art
Thomas Daniell, R.A. (1749–1840) and his nephew, William Daniell (1769–1837) were among the leading artists to visit India in the 18th and 19th Centuries. Other artists, notably William Hodges (1744–1797) who made a tour up the Ganges in 1780–83 provided inspiration. During the Daniell's famous and adventurous tours they played a prominent role in record- ing and documenting the country. As well as the professional European artists to visit India, a host of very talented amateur artists were simultaneously observing and recording Indian scenes.
