Richard Wagner

Richard Wagner è una figura centrale nella storia dell’opera e uno dei compositori più influenti della tradizione musicale occidentale. Inizialmente autodidatta, in seguito studiò per un breve periodo all’Università di Lipsia. All’inizio della sua carriera lavorò come maestro del coro e direttore d’orchestra in vari teatri d’opera tedeschi.

Al centro dell’opera di Wagner vi sono le sue opere liriche, che egli definiva «drammi musicali» e per le quali scriveva sia la musica che i libretti. Tra le sue innovazioni figurano l’uso dei leitmotiv (temi musicali ricorrenti associati a personaggi o idee), un linguaggio armonico ampliato e il concetto di Gesamtkunstwerk (opera d’arte totale), che mirava a unificare tutti gli elementi della produzione operistica. Le sue idee e la sua musica, espresse in opere famose come il ciclo di quattro opere Der Ring des Nibelungen e Tristano e Isotta, hanno esercitato un’influenza duratura sui compositori successivi e continuano ancora oggi ad essere sia celebrate che controverse.

Ich bitte Sie, Abends um 7 Uhr mit dem nöthigen Klavierauszugsmaterial sich bei mir einzufinden, um die Beckmesserei mit ihm vornehmen zu können (Hölzl comes tomorrow – Monday. I beg you to come to my house at 7 o’clock in the evening with the necessary piano score, so as to be able to deal with the Beckmesser bits [ Beckmesserei ] with him)’, one page, 12mo (140 x 105mm), integral address leaf, remnant of seal (seal tear), framed and glazed, unexamined out of frame; with ten related photographs and other items.
