Christie’s is delighted to present this double-sealed and completely untouched, fresh to the market, extremely rare and highly prized emerald-set variation of Grande Complication reference 5271P. This magnificent watch is accompanied by the full set of accessories. Fewer than five examples of this sub-reference 5271/13P-001 have so far ever been offered at auction. Made strictly for Patek Philippe’s top VIP clients, it is very rarely seen on the open market. A discreetly lavish and highly complicated platinum perpetual calendar chronograph with leap-year and day and night indication, it is set with 80 shaped and carefully matched baguette-cut emeralds of approximately 3.57 carats and a single baguette emerald as the 12 o’clock marker on the dial. The lacquer black dial with sunken sub-registers requires 12 coats of lacquer to achieve the richness of finish and depth of black colour demanded by Patek Philippe. The highly exclusive emerald-set bezel, lugs and matching emerald-set deployant clasp embody ultimate excellence in watch making technology and haute joaillerie.
Made in only a very few examples, thought to be less than 10 pieces, this watch is an incredibly exciting find for Patek collectors, being still ‘double-sealed’ and therefore untouched since the day it left the Patek Philippe manufacture. Usually reserved for Patek Philippe’s top clients, this emerald-set ref. 5271/13P-001 presents a significant opportunity for any discerning collector to acquire one of the most stunning of Patek Philippe’s modern high-complication timepieces.
