The vase is finely painted in various shades of rich cobalt blue with a continuous scene of a fishermen on a lake below birds in flight within a mountainous river landscape, all below floral sprays and a single bowstring band on the neck.

A Kangxi blue and white rouleau vase painted with very similar decoration is illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - 36 - Blue and White Porcelain with Underglazed Red (III), Hong Kong, 2000, p. 19, no. 15.
