The well-hollowed bottle is carved from stone of pale-grey and honey color with three large white horizontal bands encircling the sides.

Lot Essay

Banded agate bottles were symbolic of a successful military career, the band or 'jade belt' around the middle evoking the jade belts worn by officials. This is an unusual example of the type as it contains three bands, possibly inferring a very successful career.
