The bottle is of flattened, rounded form and is carved from stone of honey-brown tone with a creamy white horizontal band encircling the mid-section between irregular white and dark brown horizontal streaks.

Banded agate bottles were symbolic of a successful military career, the band or 'jade belt' around the middle evoking the jade belts worn by officials. This is an unusual example of the type, with the white central band barely translucent and unusually dense and thick.
