A Black Ground Thangka of A Nyingma Terma
Eastern Tibet, 19th Century
Finely painted and outlined in gold with the four-faced central winged figure holding his consort in his arms, along with a staff, a skull cup, a ritual chopper, and sword, wearing a leopard skin garment and feathers composed of small vajras, the figure ensconced in a fiery aureole decorated with dragons and fine scrollwork, while stamping in alidhasana on prostate figures over a lotus base with an offering of the Five Senses before him and surrounded by five protector deities in flaming aureoles and various animals, a skeleton and dakini figures, mounted in a silk brocade and inscribed in Tibetan 'fourth face'
