Northeastern India, Pala period, 12th century
Well-carved in openwork standing on a stepped plinth, holding his attributes of a wheel, mace and conch, wearing a short pleated dhoti and elaborate jeweled waistband, beaded jewelry, a thin scarf and sacred thread around his waist and a long floral garland, flanked by large flowers, Lakshmi and Sarasvati holding the flywhisk and vina respectively and other attendants, the arched mandorla with various animals at the sides and two apsaras above centered by a kirttimukha mask, a donor figure, Garuda and Ganesha visible amidst the scrollwork of the base
