Jiajing and Xuande marks, 17th century
The bowl delicately painted in soft shades of underglaze blue with a maiden seated beneath a palm tree holding a fan and a book and accompanied by a small boy, Jiajing six-character mark on the base; the dish delicately penciled in similar shades of soft underglaze blue with a carp leaping above waves and emitting from its mouth a vaporous cloud containing a small dragon, the exterior with numerous boys at play, the underside with Xuande six-character mark
5½ and 5 3/8in. (14 and 13.6cm.) diam., the bowl with box, the dish with stand
