H A R R Y J O H N S T O N Born in Droylsden, Manchester, in September 1919, Harry Johnston joined Blackpool as an amateur in June 1935. He turned professional the following season and became a very influential Club captain in the successful Blackpool side of the late 40's and early 50's. A centre or wing half, Johnston played 10 times for England the last of which was the game at Wembley against Hungery in November 1953 when England lost their unbeaten home record 6-3. Johnston became Reading Manager in 1955, staying there until January 1963. He then assisted his ex-team mate, Stan Mortensen, at Blackpool as Chief Scout in 1967, afterwards having two spells as Caretaker Manager before leaving the club in 1972. He was voted "Footballer of The Year" in 1951. The following four lots were awarded to HARRY JOHNSTON
