A BRISTOL DELFT POLYCHROME FARMYARD PLATE
Artists and makers have long looked to the natural world for inspiration, and the lots displayed on these two pages demonstrate the way in which a subject from nature can be approached differently in order to cater for different tastes. Both English and made in the mid- 18th century, the naturalist attention to detail and delicate trompe l'oeil treatment of the Chelsea porcelain partridge tureen contrasts nicely with the rustic and two-dimensional depiction of the birds in the five Bristol delftware farmyard dishes.
