Standing with his hips slightly askance with his right hand in varadamurda and the left holding a vajra, clad in a short dhoti secured with a pendant sash and adorned with the sacred thread and various jewelry, the face with heavy-lidded eyes flanked by foliate earrings and surmounted by a tripartite tiara, backed by a flaming aureole

Images of deities in this standardized posture are prevalent throughout Nepal (compare with lot 346). However, in this present example, Vajrpani is represented in place of Avalokiteshvara. What makes this piece unusual is that in place of the standard round base found on many other examples, this figure rests on a rectangular base with a dedication inscription.
