A CARVED AMBER 'MELONS' GROUP

The amber is naturalistically carved to depict two large melons surrounded by scrolling vines and budding flowers. The stone ranges from opaque pale cream to semi-transparent bright orange in tone.
3¼ in. (8.3 cm.) long

As it is rare to find two melons growing from the same stem, they are considered to be auspicious in Chinese history. It has been recorded that two melons sharing the same stem were presented to the Hongwu emperor (1368-1398) to denote the success of his reign.
