A CARVED AND INSCRIBED 'ZHAO BIAN' PLAQUE
QING DYNASTY, 18TH/19TH CENTURY
The rectangular plaque is carved to one side with the scholar-official Zhao Bian holding a qin standing next to a crane, the other side with a poetic inscription recounting Zhao Bian's mission to assume official duty in Sichuan, followed by a Zigang signature and two seals reading Zi and Gang. The stone is of an even milky white tone

The scholar on the current plaque refers to the Song dynasty official Zhao Bian, who was known to be a virtuous and upright man, bringing along nothing but a crane and a qin to Sichuan when he was appointed governor there.
