A CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER 'NINE DRAGONS' BOX AND COVER
QIANLONG INCISED AND GILT SIX-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)
The top is well carved with a writhing five-clawed dragon encircled by four other dragons striding amidst crested waves, each pursuing a flaming pearl, the sides of the box similarly decorated with four further dragons, the details of the waves and scales finely rendered. The interior of the cover is incised and gilt with four characters Jiulong Baohe, ‘Treasure Box of Nine Dragons’, the interior of the box with a Qianlong reign mark.
