On an integrally carved ivory base decorated in relief with the crescent moon and serpent on a cloud filled with cherubim.

Lot Essay

Although this figure is very European in feeling, a comparison with a figure on loan to an exhibition of ivories in Portugal suggests a Goanese origin for this type (see Lisbon, loc. cit., no. 91).
