A CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL CENSER MODELLED AS A MYTHICAL BEAST

The fan-tailed collared beast is of oval form and rests on two enamelled front feet with a gilt support terminating in a dragon head to the rear, its mouth is cast slightly open to reveal its tongue, its wings comprise enamel and gilt shaped panels in open work depicting scaly confronting dragons writhing about the flaming pearl amidst cloud scrolls, the body is decorated with a repeating hexagonal design.
